How this works

Chronic absence means missing 10% or more of the days a student is enrolled, for any reason. The rate so far is days absent divided by days enrolled so far.

  • Under 5%: satisfactory
  • 5% to 9.9%: at risk
  • 10% to 19.9%: chronically absent
  • 20% or more: severe chronic absence

"Can miss and stay under 10%" counts against the full year: the most days the student can still miss while the year total stays below 10% of the days in the year.

The year-end number assumes the current pace holds. Absences often climb in winter, so a fall pace can understate the year.
