Strategic Student was founded by Dr. JT Stark and a team of education practitioners and applied researchers. JT has spent his career in public education, including more than a decade teaching as a university professor. He started out studying elementary education, and everything since has circled back to the same question: how do we spot the student who needs help before anyone is worried about them?

Chasing that question earned him a PhD in Education, a fellowship with Harvard University's Strategic Data Project, and the Council of the Great City Schools' Informing Progress in Urban Education Research Team Award. It also put him on stages across the country, speaking about early warning, chronic absenteeism, graduation, and artificial intelligence.

Strategic Student is where that work becomes something every educator can use and so much more!

What we believe

Always do what's best for kids is our mantra and every decision on this site runs through that filter. We love education, we love the people who do it, and we believe good data and better systems help schools care for students sooner. Being an educator is the most important job in the world, and it deserves to be informed as such.

We don't just follow best practices, we create them. When something useful doesn't exist, we build it, test it in the real world, and share it. Every student deserves a chance to succeed, and we work to ensure that is a reality.
